Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 per annum
Our client is a successful privately-owned manufacturer based in Tyneside known for supplying industry leading innovative products to an international customer base across Automotive, OEM, Rail, Architectural, Construction and Defence sectors. A succession plan has now created the opportunity for an experienced and capable R&D Technical Manager to develop bespoke, niche technical products and drive improvements throughout the R&D and Technical divisions.
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this is a hands-on role, whilst operating as an integral part of the site leadership team and as such will require ability to lead by example across the Engineering department.
Responsibilities will include:
Implementation of a structured R&D plan from concept to design to production handover
Review and understand the equipment, manufacturing systems and processes
Measuring for excellence using manufacturing analytics / KPIs; including Performance, Quality, Yield, Capacity, Throughput, PMP, Scrap
Responsible for the on-going evaluation and development of processes and product range ensuring utilisation of the most up to date manufacturing tools and techniques whilst exploring new and innovative ways of manufacture
Implement and maintain a robust preventative maintenance and engineering programme to drive OEE and improve performance
Working closely with supply partners from around the globe chosen for their industry knowledge, experience and quality leading materials which subsequently ensure our products are technologically advanced and are at the very cutting edge within our industry
Manage the maintenance and engineering team including mentor and developing staff, leading from the front
Identify and present a coherent and commercial plan for capital expenditure
Use Continuous Improvement Techniques, in conjunction with the Production Team to contribute to the development of the business to deliver stable products and processes
Interface with Sales and Production to deliver product innovation in line with customer requirements

Educated to degree level or equivalent in an Engineering discipline - Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering
Experience within an R&D Technical role at managerial capacity leading and directing an Engineering/Maintenance Team
The ability to methodically & systematically scope a project and plan a route to production using technical methodology
Manufacturing experience, ideally gained within OEM, Automotive, Process or Engineering
Demonstrable experience in using Standard Operating Procedures, Continuous Improvement Plans & leading R&D projects
A natural problem solver who is driven by results and solutions with an ability to communicate with key internal and external stakeholders
