Recruiters: what they do and how they can help you! (Candidate Blog)

What does a recruiter do?
A recruiter works on behalf of an employer to find the most suitable candidate for a given vacancy. It is their job to attract, source, screen and present a short list of individuals with the right knowledge, skills and experience to the employer.

Recruiters may work within an company's human resources department (typically) or on an outsourced basis, as an independent consultant. External or outsourced recruiters often specialise in certain industries giving them in-depth knowledge of what makes an ideal candidate.

How can a recruiter help you?

It can be hugely advantageous to work with a recruiter. Here are some reasons why:

  • A recruiter that specialises in your specific industry might have access to jobs and clients you might not have considered previously.
  • Recruiters are paid by the employer, not by you meaning it is technically 'free' to use their expertise and their contacts, providing you are a suitable candidate for them to work with.
  • Recruiters have a reputation to uphold and will only put forward the best candidate for the job in question. If that's you, they will help you with your CV, prep you for interview and guide you through the process. This can be a huge aid, particularly when you get into the nitty gritty 'salary questions'.

If you work in engineering, finance, HR or production / operations, send your CV into the team at Extension Recruitment to see if they can help!
